RIYADH — The General Authority of Media Regulation (GAMR) has referred six individuals to the Public Prosecution for publishing content aimed at inciting public opinion. This is after considering their act as a crime punishable under the Anti-Cybercrime Law.
The authority stated that the Public Prosecution is carrying out investigation into the charges against these people before referring them to the competent court, with a plea to take appropriate legal penalties against them.
The authority explained that Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Anti-Cybercrime Law stipulates: “Anyone who commits the crime of producing, preparing, transmitting, or storing, via the internet, anything that could harm public order, religious values, public morals, or the sanctity of private life shall be punished by imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years and a fine not exceeding SR3 million, or by either of these penalties.”
The authority emphasized that it will not tolerate any media content that could harm public order or violate media regulations, and will take all necessary deterrent measures against any violators.
