JEDDAH — The European Film Festival, organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Saudi Arabia, screened “Palestine Stereo” Tuesday  at the residence of the French Consul General here.

“Palestine Stereo” is a story about two Palestinian brothers, Samy and Milad, also known as stereo, who plan to migrate to Canada after the Israeli air forces bombed their family home. Milad was a wedding singer, but when his wife dies in the attack, he becomes disillusioned with his life in Palestine. The bombing also leaves Samy mute and deaf. The two set about earning money for their travel by buying a second hand sound system which they rent out for events in Ramallah.

“Palestine Stereo” received Toronto's TIFF 2013 Contemporary World Cinema Award. The movie is directed by Rashid Masharawi and produced by Abdel Salam Abu Shaker.

Palestine's Consul General Emad Shaat  and his wife welcomed the guests.

Shaat thanked the European Delegation and European consulates for giving Palestinian opportunity an opportunity to show its movie.

He extended his thanks to the French Consul General Louis Blin and his wife for supporting the move.

Shaat said: “It is both an honor and a pleasure to take part in this festival. On behalf of all Palestinians around the world, I would like to extend our warm welcome to our distinguished guests and audience, to express our sincere thanks to the European Delegation and European consulates for giving us this opportunity.”
