Sheikh Faisal Nouman, renowned Muezzin of Prophet's Mosque, passes away

MADINAH — Sheikh Faisal bin Abdulmalik Nouman, Muezzin of the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, passed away on Monday evening. Funeral prayer for him was offered at the Prophet’s Mosque after Fajr prayer on Tuesday and his body was buried in Jannatul Baqi cemetery.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, head of the Presidency for the Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, offered condolences, on behalf of himself, the imams, muezzins, and religious teachers of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, and all staffers of the Religious Affairs Presidency, on the passing of Sheikh Faisal.

Sheikh Al-Sudais prayed to God Almighty to shower His mercy on the deceased, grant him a place in Paradise, and reward him abundantly for his service and dedication to calling the faithful to prayer at the Prophet’s Mosque. He also prayed that God may grant patience and solace to his bereaved family members.

Born in Madinah, Sheikh Faisal Nouman obtained his university degree from Taibah University after completing school education in Madinah. Sheikh Faisal joined a noble lineage devoted to calling for adhan at the Prophet’s Mosque. His grandfather and father both served in this honored role. His father, Sheikh Abdulmalik Nouman began calling for prayer at the Prophet's Mosque at the age of 14 and continued in this noble role until his passing at over 90 years of age.


Sheikh Faisal was appointed as mueddin of the Prophet’s Mosque and fulfilled this noble career with sincerity for nearly 25 years, serving from 1422 AH, corresponding to 2001, to 1447 AH, corresponding to 2025.


Sheikh Faisal was known for his melodious voice and reverent recitation. He was one of the familiar voices that became etched in the memories of worshippers and visitors to the Prophet's Mosque, remaining present in the hearts of all who heard him, a testament to years of dedicated service in Islam’s second holiest place.

His legacy of the adhan endures across generations and in the hearts of the Ummah. With his passing, the Muslim world lost a melodious voice through which millions had heard the call to prayer for decades. The outpouring of grief and prayers on social media reflected his special place in the hearts of worshippers and visitors, whose memories are forever linked to his serene voice that filled the Prophet's Mosque with reverence and tranquility.
