RIYADH — Inspection teams from the Transport General Authority (TGA) have arrested a total of 1,396 violators and initiated legal measures against them. The punitive measures taken against them included vehicle impoundment and fines for operating unlicensed passenger transport services in various regions of the Kingdom.
During inspection tours, carried out between December 6 and 12, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, the TGA monitoring teams apprehended 634 individuals for illegally soliciting passengers using their private vehicles, and 762 individuals for transporting passengers in their private vehicles in unauthorized ways.
These inspection campaigns aimed to enhance competitiveness in the transportation sector, curb illegal practices that compromise transportation quality and passenger safety, and contribute to improved compliance rates in the passenger transport sector, in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
The regulations of the new Road Transport Law strictly prohibit unlicensed transportation. Penalties for repeated violations include fines of up to SR11,000 and vehicle impoundment for 25 days for those engaging in unauthorized soliciting.
Penalties include a fine of SR20,000 and vehicle impoundment for up to 60 days for those engaged in unauthorized transportation, with the possibility of selling the erring vehicle at public auction and deporting non-Saudis in case of repeated violations.
