RIYADH — Transshipment containers handled by Saudi ports recorded an increase of 8.22 percent, reaching 162,252 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit), during the last month of Novemberup from 149,927 TEUs in the same period in 2024. However, the total handled containers decreased by 2.97 percent, reaching 649,286 TEUs compared to 669,174 TEUs last year, according to a report of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani).
The ports, supervised by Mawani, achieved a 0.21percent increase in total cargo, including general cargo, dry bulk, and liquid bulk during November 2025, reaching 17,825,988 tons, compared to 17,788,247 tons in the same period of 2024. General cargo totaled 1,193,795 tons, dry bulk 4,021,286 tons, and liquid bulk 12,610,907 tons.
There is a decrease of 6.83 percent in the rate of imported containers, reaching 241,494 TEUs compared to 259,201 TEUs, and exported containers dropped by 5.58 percent, totaling 245,540 TEUs compared to 260,046 TEUs last year.
Maritime traffic increased by 6.81percent, reaching 1,020 vessels, up from 955 vessels in the same period last year. Passenger numbers surged by 70.01 percent, totaling 112,927 passengers, compared to 66,422 passengers last year. Vehicle volumes declined by 22.68 percent, reaching 77,134 vehicles, down from 99,759. Saudi ports also received 722,140 cattle heads, an increase of 0.78 percent compared to 716,541 head in the same period last year.
These improvements contribute to several economic benefits, including strengthening commercial activity, supporting industries linked to maritime transport, boosting tourism and marine services, and enhancing supply chains. They also support the Kingdom’s food security goals, aligning with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to reinforce Saudi Arabia’s standing as a global logistics hub.
In October 2025, ports supervised by Mawani recorded a 12.19 percent increase in total handled containers, reaching 709,393 TEUs compared to 632,323 TEUs in the same period of the previous year.
