Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of amphetamine (Captagon) pills—estimated at around 3.4 million tablets—through King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.
ZATCA’s spokesperson Hammoud Al-Harbi said the shipment, declared as charcoal, was flagged during customs inspection procedures. Security technologies and sniffer dogs revealed the drugs concealed inside charcoal bags.
Following the seizure, coordination with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control led to the arrest of three individuals who were set to receive the shipment inside the Kingdom.
Al-Harbi affirmed that ZATCA continues to maintain strict customs control over Saudi Arabia’s imports and exports, standing firm against all smuggling attempts as part of its mission to protect society and the national economy.
He urged the public to assist in combating smuggling by reporting suspicious activities through the authority’s hotline (1910), email (1910@zatca.gov.sa), or international number (+9661910).
Reports are treated confidentially, and financial rewards are granted for verified information leading to seizures.
