RIYADH — The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 8.9 kilograms of methamphetamine at the Empty Quarter (Rub' Al-Khali) border crossing, after the narcotics were found hidden beneath a truck’s air tank.

ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi said coordination with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control led to the arrest of two individuals identified as the intended recipients of the drugs inside the Kingdom.

Al-Harbi reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to tightening customs inspections and combating all forms of smuggling, underscoring ZATCA’s strategic objective to enhance security and safeguard society by preventing the entry of prohibited substances.

The authority also urged the public to support anti-smuggling efforts by reporting suspicious activity through its official channels, including the hotline 1910, the international number +966114108417, or via email at 1910@zatca.gov.sa.

ZATCA guarantees full confidentiality for informants and offers financial rewards for verified information.
