RIYADH — In a historic moment for Saudi Arabian esports, Team Falcons have been crowned the first-ever Esports World Cup (EWC) Club Champions.

The hometown heroes secured the title on an electrifying Saturday at Boulevard Riyadh City, clinching the coveted championship and a $7 million first prize.

Heading into the penultimate day of Week 7, Team Falcons held a commanding lead with 4,160 points. Their closest challengers, The Netherlands’ Team Liquid, fell short in the Tekken8 tournament, officially ending their championship hopes. Team Vitality, another contender, also dropped out after failing to advance in StarCraft II, ensuring Team Falcons' unassailable lead.

The victory ignited celebrations among the home crowd, marking a significant achievement in the Kingdom’s esports history. The triumph sets the stage for another thrilling atmosphere at the SEF Arena on Sunday, where the StarCraft II, EA SPORTS FC 24, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Grand Finals will take place. The Esports World Cup will conclude with the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, August 25, where Team Falcons will be gloriously crowned as the 2024 EWC Club Champions. — SG
