JEDDAH — Egypt’s Consulate in Jeddah celebrated the Egyptian National Day on Monday.



July 23 will mark the 63rd anniversary of a revolution that brought the end of monarchy rule and marked the beginning of republic rule in 1952.



Consul General Adel El-Alfy and his wife met guests including consuls general and ambassadors of Arab, Islamic and foreign countries, prominent Saudi figures, members of the Egyptian community and media representatives.



In his speech El-Alfy traced the historical relationships between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He confirmed the strength of relations and paid tribute to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman; Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, deputy premier and interior minister; and Deputy Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, second deputy premier and defense minister.



El-Alfy spoke about how the 1952 revolution was always the inspiration for the so-called Arab Spring revolutions in 2011 and 2013.



He stressed the strong relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia that are based on cooperation and integration between the two countries.



Saudi investments in Egypt are valued at $6 billion with 3,000 projects in diverse sectors, he said.



Saudi deals during the Egypt Economic Development Forum (EEDF) in March 2015 were worth $16 billion, mainly in power and real estate sectors, he added.



El-Alfy also praised Saudi authorities’ efforts in facilitating the transport of Egyptians from Yemen.



In line with economic development, the new Suez Canal will open on Aug. 6, the flagship project in President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s program to revive the economy and a symbol of national pride.
