JEDDAH — The Algerian Consulate General held a celebration on the 60th anniversary of the Algerian Revolution Jeddah Hilton Hall, Sunday.

 

Algerian Consul General Saleh Atiyah and other consulate members received Ahmad Mohammad Tayeb, director general of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Makkah Region, Saudi dignitaries, senior officials, consuls general, diplomats, Algerian community members, media representatives and officials of international and regional organizations. 

 

The ceremony began with the Algerian and Saudi national anthems followed by a welcome speech by Atiyah. 

 

Atiyah paid tribute to the glorious martyrs, commemorating the great sacrifices paid by the Algerian people for the liberation of Algeria, and commending great solidarity with the Algerian revolution by the Saudi brothers. 

 

Atiyah said: “Today we commemorate and remember the glorious sacrifice made by the Algerian people to gain freedom and independence in order to live in the space of freedom, dignity and glory. One and a half million of its best people sacrificed their lives through a century and a half of continuous and deadly strive which witnessed caravans of martyrs who built the path of freedom not only for Algerians but for all liberation movements all over the world.” 

 

“We as Algerians and all other Arab brothers shall remember that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was one of the first supporters to the Revolution of one million and half martyrs. Such support will remain an evidence of the solidarity between the people of Algeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," he added.   

  

The consul general also highlighted the development being experienced by Algeria now in all the domains under the leadership of Algerian President Abdul Aziz Boutaflica through wise policies, initiatives of reforms and national reconciliation that has enabled Algeria to implement the first five-year plan (2010-2014) for which $262 billion has been allocated. 

 

Atiyah also acknowledged the noticeable progress in the Algerian-Saudi relations as pivotal states within the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

 

Tayeb delivered a speech and conveyed his congratulations to the Algerian people on this glorious occasion. He highlighted the role of the Algerian Revolution in inspiring the colonized people to fight and strive to liberate and free their countries from colonization. 

 

He also stressed on the close relations, contact and permanent consultation between the leaderships of the two countries.

 

November 1 is the anniversary of liberating the Algerian lands from French colonialism and the restoration of the national sovereignty.
