'Solo: A Star Wars Story' struggles to take off in opening weekend
LOS ANGELES - "Solo: A Star Wars Story," the latest prequel in the hugely popular film franchise, struggled to achieve escape velocity this holiday weekend, with an estimated $101 million four-day take falling far below expectations.Analysts had predicted the Disney/Lucasfilm project - directed by Ron Howard and with Alden Ehrenreich as a young version of the swashbuckling Han Solo - would reach $130 million to $150 million. But the film, with a cast including Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke, was falling short not only in North America, box office tracker Exhibitor Relations predicted, but also abroad."The news is grim overseas," said Hollywood Reporter, saying the film was heading for barely half the $300 million global take many had predicted.Last...

Fans have mixed response to Will Smith's World Cup song 'Live It Up'
LONDON - FIFA World Cup organizers divided fans by releasing the tournament’s official song on Monday - a fast-paced dance track titled Live It Up, featuring Will Smith. Some on social media asked how the tune’s Latin American feel fitted in with the tournament’s host country Russia - and compared it unfavorably with past efforts like Shakira’s Waka Waka for the 2010 world cup in South Africa. Some more were puzzled by the choice of performers. Will is joined by Puerto Rico-born Reggaeton artist Nicky Jam and singer Era Istrefi, who describes herself as “Albanian Kosovar” - none of them from countries competing this year.“The World Cup song doesn’t have any football ring to it. How is Messi gonna dance to Live It Up?!” one user tweeted. Others were won over by the energetic...

Spanish horse whisperer's animals help people de-stress
MADRID - In the Guadalix mountains outside Madrid, Argentine horse whisperer Fernando Noailles uses his animals to help people suffering from stress and anxiety. The 57-year-old, who spent many years in the Patagonian wilderness living with horses, uses the animals as a way for patients to interpret and control their emotions. People who come to his sessions spend time with the horses and learn through the movement of the animal what mental state they themselves are in, says Noailles, who charges up to 120 euros per session. "The horse is a mirror," he says. "They are gregarious creatures, born to live in herds." The therapy consists in monitoring how the horse responds to the client's moods. From watching the horse's reaction, the client learns how to identify...

But I've never had a dog in the city, so I've never had to pick up dog poop," McCarthy said on a recent leisurely saunter in the Hollywood Hills."I was also seeing a lot of personal trainer ads. And so I kind of said to my girlfriend, 'Maybe I'll just become a people walker.'"McCarthy was joking but the more he thought about it, the more he realized...

Truck dumps 18 tons of chicken feathers on highway
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - A tractor-trailer made a fowl mess when it rolled over in Washington state. It dumped about 18,145 kilograms of chicken feathers across Interstate 5. Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson says the driver told investigators he fell asleep at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday north of Tacoma and lost control of the truck, which hit a guardrail and overturned. The truck was hauling the feathers from a poultry facility to a rendering company in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Canadian company recycles animal byproducts into ingredients for items including pet feed and soap. The News Tribune newspaper of Tacoma reports traffic backed up for 18 kilometers as crews scooped up the feathers. Johnson said the driver would be cited for negligent driving. - AP
