Rare white bison born at Belgrade Zoo
BELGRADE - One of the world's rarest animals - a white bison - has been born at Belgrade Zoo, officials said. The calf, named Dusanka, was born on Saturday and trotted around her enclosure in "good health", according to the zoo's veterinarian. "According to my information, no other (American) white bison has been born in Europe," said veterinarian Jozef Ezvedj. "Her father Jovan (a white bison) came to us in 2007, imported from America when he was still very young, practically a baby. Dusanka inherited his genes," Ezvedj said. "We are making sure that she is in good health and that she enjoys a peaceful childhood." Many Native Americans consider white bison to be a good omen and a symbol of hope. This handout picture received via the Nature website shows a life scene in the Dolomites region, Northern Italy, about 240 million years ago, with Megachirella wachtleri walking through the vegetation. The oldest-known member of the evolutionary lineage that led to the squamates (the group of animals that today includes snakes and lizards) lived in the Middle Triassic, some 240 million years ago, reports a paper in Nature this week. This finding dates both the origin of squamates and the split of the wider diapsid reptile lineages to before the Permian/Triassic mass-extinction, 252 million years ago. — AFP
The mother of all lizards found in Italian Alps
By Mariëtte Le RouxSCIENTISTS said this week they had tracked down the oldest known lizard, a tiny creature that lived about 240 million years ago when Earth had a single continent and dinosaurs were brand new.Scans of the fossilized skeleton of Megachirella revealed the chameleon-sized reptile was an ancestor of today's lizards and snakes, which belong to a group called squamates, an international team wrote in the science journal Nature. This finding dragged the group back in time by 75 million years, and means that "lizards inhabited the planet since at least 240 million years ago," study co-author Tiago Simoes of the University of Alberta in Canada told AFP.That, in turn, suggested that squamates had already split from other ancient reptiles before the Permian/Triassic...

The $1,245
The Balenciaga T-shirt Shirt that has the internet baffled
LOS ANGELES - A high-end online retailer is turning heads with a $1,245 "T-Shirt Shirt" - that is, a T-shirt with a button-down shirt stuck to its front. Balenciaga's Fall 2018 collection, available now on the brand's website, includes the pricey "T-Shirt Shirt," which appears to be nothing more than a T-shirt with an empty checkered button-down shirt sewn or glued to its front. The site says the shirt boasts "two wearing options" - ostensibly as a T-shirt or a button-down. The unusual garment went viral on Twitter, where commentators were quick to mock up their own cheaper knock-off versions as well as adapt the style to pants and other articles of clothing. The high-end brand previously made headlines last year when it released a $2,145 blue tote bag...
