JEDDAH — Jeddah Municipality has begun removing the Camel Roundabout as part of a wider project to implement engineering solutions aimed at easing traffic congestion across the city in 2026.
Work has started on canceling the roundabout, replacing it with modern traffic signals, redirecting vehicle movement to right-turn flows, and relocating the landmark sculptures to a new site at a later stage.
The move is intended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at one of the main northern entrances to Jeddah.
Jeddah Municipality said it has approved a comprehensive traffic solution to address severe bottlenecks in southern Abhur, particularly around the Camel Roundabout, describing the project as a key initiative expected to significantly enhance road efficiency and mobility in the area.
The Camel Roundabout was designed by Saudi artist Rabee Al Akhras and featured elongated three-dimensional camel sculptures positioned around the roundabout along the northern Corniche in Abhur.
