RIYADH — Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman held talks in Riyadh with Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali to discuss areas of mutual interest and ways to strengthen investment and cooperation in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Following the meeting, the two sides signed an executive program for cooperation in renewable energy and for enabling companies to implement joint projects between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Morocco.

The program falls under a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation signed by the two countries in May 2022.

The executive program aims to strengthen bilateral partnership and increase mutual investments to develop cooperation in renewable energy projects in both countries and in third countries.

It also seeks to enable national companies to cooperate in implementing projects related to renewable energy, energy storage systems, grid integration of renewable energy, electricity transmission lines, and power grid enhancement.

The program further covers the use of renewable energy sources in development projects and infrastructure, the implementation of projects developed and operated using renewable energy, as well as the establishment and development of research centers, technology development related to renewable energy, training, and capacity building to support sustainability and knowledge transfer.
