NEW YORK — Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel reiterated the Kingdom’s support for the head of the Yemeni government and the Presidential Leadership Council in achieving security, stability, development, and peace, in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.

He made the remarks while attending a session on Yemen in the UN Security Council in light of the humanitarian, political, and security conditions.

Al-Wasel expressed the Kingdom’s regret over the military operations carried out by the Southern Transitional Council along the Kingdom’s southern border in Hadhramaut and Al-Mahrah governorates, describing them as a threat to the Kingdom’s national security as well as to the security and stability in Yemen and the region.

Al-Wasel conveyed the Kingdom’s welcome of the agreement signed in the Sultanate of Oman for the exchange of prisoners and detainees in Yemen, considering it as an important humanitarian step that contributes to alleviating human suffering and enhancing confidence-building opportunities.

He also noted the Kingdom’s response to the request of the head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, which included a call to convene a comprehensive conference in Riyadh bringing together all southern components to sit at the dialogue table and discuss fair solutions to the southern issue.

Al-Wasel stressed the importance of cooperation among all Yemeni forces and components and exerting all efforts to reach a lasting solution that leads to achieving security and stability in Yemen.
