MOSCOW — At least one person was killed and 28 others were injured in a Russian airstrike on Kyiv that began overnight and continued into Saturday morning, Ukrainian authorities said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 28 people were wounded in the attack, with 13 taken to hospital.
Earlier, regional military administration chief Mykola Kalashnik said a woman was killed and 10 others, including two children, were injured in the Bila Tserkva district south of the capital.
Ukrainian media reported that Russia launched a large-scale overnight assault using drones and missiles.
The strikes damaged multi-story apartment blocks, private homes, a student dormitory, and infrastructure facilities across several districts of Kyiv, officials said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said nearly 500 drones and about 40 missiles were used in the attack, including hypersonic Kinzhal missiles.
He said energy facilities and civilian infrastructure were hit, with emergency crews working to clear debris and extinguish fires.
Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed carrying out the strikes, describing them as retaliation for what it called Ukrainian “terrorist attacks” on Russian territory earlier this week.
Moscow said the attack targeted energy infrastructure supporting Ukrainian forces, military-industrial facilities, drone production sites, and locations where Ukrainian troops and foreign fighters were temporarily deployed.
Independent verification of battlefield claims from either side remains difficult due to the ongoing war. — Agencies
