TEHRAN — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Saturday that Iran is engaged in what he described as a “full-scale war” with the United States, Israel and Europe, days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is due to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington.
In an interview published on the website of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian said the confrontation facing Iran is more severe than the 1980s war with Iraq.
“We are in a full-scale war with the U.S., Israel and Europe; they don’t want our country to remain stable,” he said.
Pezeshkian described the pressure from Western powers as “more complicated and more difficult” than the 1980–1988 Iran-Iraq war, which left more than one million people killed or wounded on both sides.
His comments came ahead of Netanyahu’s planned talks with Trump on Monday, during which Iran is expected to feature prominently on the agenda.
Israel and the United States carried out strikes on Iran during a 12-day air conflict in June that Iranian authorities say killed nearly 1,100 people, including senior military commanders and nuclear scientists. Iranian retaliatory missile attacks killed 28 people in Israel, according to Israeli officials. — Agencies
