RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday condemned Israel’s approval of the construction of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, describing the move as a violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
In a statement, the ministry said the decision by Israeli occupation authorities contravenes multiple UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2334, which affirms that Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, have no legal validity and constitute a flagrant violation of international law.
The statement also referenced earlier resolutions, including 446, 452 and 465, which call on Israel to cease settlement activities in the occupied territories.
The ministry reiterated Saudi Arabia’s call on the international community to assume its responsibility to halt such violations and reaffirmed the Kingdom’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people.
It stressed continued efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions.
