RIYADH — The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority announced the seizure of 1,145 contraband items at land, sea, and air customs ports during the last week.
The seized smuggled items include 133 types of narcotics, 632 types of prohibited substances, 2,121 types of tobacco and its derivatives, seven seizures of money, and six types of weapons and accessories.
The authority affirmed its commitment to strengthening customs control over the Kingdom’s exports and imports so as to ensure the security and protection of society, through continuous cooperation and coordination with all relevant partners.
The authority called for active involvement of the public in combating smuggling to protect society and the national economy, through passing information to the dedicated security reporting number 1910, which receives reports related to smuggling crimes and violations of the provisions of the Unified Customs Law. It said that the information will be dealt with complete confidentiality, and will grant a financial reward to whistleblowers if the information in the report is correct.
