NCM: Winter begins Monday as rainfall expected to continue in several regions in coming days

JEDDAH—Hussein Al-Qahtani, spokesperson of the National Center for Meteorology (NCM), said that the meteorological winter season will begin in Saudi Arabia on Monday, Dec. 1, with temperatures starting to gradually decrease. There are continued chances for rainfall to experience in several regions of the Kingdom in the coming days, he said.

Al-Qahtani said that the weather in the Kingdom is characterized by pleasant and relatively stable conditions. He said that next Sunday will witness the beginning of the first rainy spell of December, expecting rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy, affecting several regions that were impacted recently, particularly Madinah and Hail regions, the highlands of Makkah and parts of its southern coast, in addition to other large areas of the Kingdom.

The NCM said in its weather report on Saturday that moderate thunderstorms accompanied by hail and active winds are expected in the Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha regions. Fog formation is also possible in these regions as well as in the Eastern Province. Meanwhile, surface winds stirring up dust and sand will affect the Makkah, Madinah, Hail, Tabuk, and Al-Jouf regions.

The report indicated that surface winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to northerly at 10-28 km/h in the northern and central parts, and southerly to southeasterly at 15-40 km/h, reaching up to 50 km/h with the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds over the southern part, also towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Wave height will range from half a meter to one meter in the northern and central parts, and from one to two meters, reaching over two meters with the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds over the southern part, also towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The sea state will be slight in the northern and central parts, and moderate to rough with the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds over the southern part, also towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
