Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in strengthening women’s rights through a series of laws, protection mechanisms, and support services aimed at preventing abuse and ensuring the safety and dignity of women across the Kingdom.

Key national reforms include the Law on Protection from Abuse, the Anti-Harassment Law, and the active role of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in receiving reports through the Family Protection Center.

The ministry also operates shelters and provides psychological and social support services for women facing violence.

The message comes as the world marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25, an annual global observance established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999.

The occasion serves to raise awareness about gender-based violence, promote women’s rights, and call for concrete action to eliminate all forms of abuse.

The day underscores a clear principle: protecting women means protecting society as a whole.

Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission and the National Family Safety Program continue to implement training programs, awareness campaigns, and media initiatives encouraging victims to report abuse and seek support.

These efforts reaffirm the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening social security, empowering women, and building a protective environment that involves not only government agencies, but also families, schools, and community institutions.
