Canadian film Time Hoppers honoring Islamic civilization debuts in Riyadh and Jeddah

November 04, 2025

RIYADH — The Embassy of Canada in Saudi Arabia celebrated the premiere of Time Hoppers, a Canadian children’s adventure film that spotlights the scientific and cultural contributions of Arab civilizations.

The simultaneous launch in Riyadh and Jeddah marks a milestone in cultural exchange and creative collaboration between Canada and Saudi Arabia.

Time Hoppers blends Canadian filmmaking expertise with storytelling inspired by the heritage, values, and aspirations of the Arab and Muslim world.

The film follows four young heroes who travel through time to protect the discoveries of four historical figures: Al-Khwarizmi, the father of algebra; Ibn Al-Haytham, the pioneer of optics; Maryam Astrolabe, the astronomer and engineer; and Mansa Musa, the visionary ruler of Mali.

Through their journey, Time Hoppers introduces children to the lasting impact of Arab and Muslim innovators whose ideas shaped the modern world.

The film’s central themes — teamwork, curiosity, and problem-solving — encourage young audiences to embrace knowledge and imagine themselves as the inventors and leaders of tomorrow.

Highlighting Saudi Arabia’s growing role as a global center for cultural innovation and creative industries, the premiere reflects the Kingdom’s expanding partnerships in film and entertainment.

Jean-Philippe Linteau, Canada’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, said: “Time Hoppers helps children — especially Muslim youth — see themselves on screen by sharing diverse role models. As one of the most diverse countries in the world, Canada is proud to support filmmakers that create such inclusive stories.”

Following its debut in Riyadh and Jeddah, Time Hoppers will be released in English and Arabic across 200 theaters throughout the MENA region, before expanding internationally to more than 500 theaters in the US, UK, and Canada in February 2026. — SG
