RIYADH — The Saudi Heritage Commission has completed the first phase of Al-Yamama Archaeological Project survey, leading to the discovery of 337 new sites.
The effort also entailed documenting 231 structures through 3D photography, surveying 148 structures, and detailing 70 within a 100-kilometer radius of Riyadh and its surrounding areas.
The discoveries include sites for stone tool manufacturing, water facilities such as wells and dams, circular stone structures of various sizes and shapes, and locations dating back to the early Islamic era.
The project is part of the Heritage Commission’s comprehensive plan to update the archaeological map of the Riyadh Region by documenting historical landmarks and studying previously unexplored sites using advanced technologies.
The commission emphasized that these findings offer a new window into Riyadh's archaeological history and contribute to reshaping the understanding of its development and the different stages of its civilization.
