Saudi Arabia offers condolences to Qatar over tragic loss of diplomats in Egypt

RIYADH The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered Saudi Arabia’s sincere condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Qatar over the passing of three members of the Amiri Diwan in a car crash in Egypt on Saturday.

The ministry conveyed the Kingdom’s solidarity with the families of the deceased and extended its heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured. The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan also expressed condolences over the death of the Qatari diplomats, who were from the Qatari protocol team. They were traveling to Egypt's Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh ahead of a high-level summit celebrating the Gaza ceasefire.

The Qatari Embassy in Egypt announced earlier the death of three Amiri Diwan personnel in a traffic accident near Sharm El-Sheikh. The diplomats were carrying out official duties when they met with the fatal accident. A car carrying the diplomats overturned on a curve on a road 50 kilometers from the Sharm El-Sheikh city.

The deceased were identified as Saud bin Thamer Al-Thani, Abdullah Ghanem Al Khayarin, and Hassan Jaber Al Jaber. Two other Qatari officials Abdullah Issa Al Kuwari and Mohammed Abdulaziz Al Buainain sustained injuries in the accident.

According to the Qatar News Agency, the embassy confirmed that it immediately began following up on the accident with the relevant Egyptian authorities. The two injured officials are currently receiving necessary medical care at Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, and arrangements are being made to repatriate the deceased and injured back to Doha.
