Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — The General Authority for Foreign Trade (GAFT) announced on Tuesday the launch of an anti-dumping investigation into imports of easy-open aluminum ends for beverage cans. These cans feature thicknesses ranging from 0.213 millimeters to 0.250 millimeters and diameters from 50 millimeters to 63 millimeters, originating in or exported from China.

The decision is in accordance with the Trade Remedies Law in International Trade, issued on November 23, 2022. Article 4.1 of the law stipulates that the authority is responsible for trade remedies including conducting investigations, reviews, and the imposition of measures in accordance with the Kingdom's international commitments, especially under the Anti-Dumping Agreement, the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures, and the Agreement on Safeguards.

Since the law’s issuance, GAFT has carried out several investigations across various industrial sectors to protect local industry from harm caused by dumped and subsidized imports, prevent import surges, and defend the Kingdom’s exports subject to measures of trade remedies.
