RIYADH — A Saudi court imposed a total fine of SR40,000 on a Saudi citizen and a Yemeni national for their involvement in the crime of commercial cover-up. The court convicted them of engaging in commercial cover up in the tourism accommodation sector in the city of Abha in the southern Asir region. It also ruled to publish their names and crimes in the local media at their own personal expense, the Ministry of Commerce revealed.

The Saudi citizen was found to have illegally employed the Yemeni national to operate a rental property business for his personal benefit without obtaining a foreign investment license. The punitive measures against commercial cover up practices include additional penalties, such as closure of the business, cancellation of the commercial registration and license, prohibition of the Saudi citizen from engaging in the same or any other business activity for five years, and deportation of the Yemeni national with a ban on returning to Saudi Arabia for work.

The Anti-Commercial Cover up Law regulations also stipulate penalties of up to five years imprisonment, a fine of up to SR5million, and confiscation of illegally obtained assets, following final court judgments against those found guilty of the crime.
