JERUSALEM — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia, France, the United Nations, and all participating countries for the historic New York Declaration in the United Nations conference. Approved by the General Assembly, this declaration aims to end the humanitarian crisis and occupation, establishing an independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, existing alongside Israel in security and peace.
In his speech, read on his behalf at the high-level international conference for the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution at the UN General Assembly headquarters in New York, Abbas emphasized that the declaration underscores the urgent need to halt the war on the Palestinian people. He condemned the use of siege, starvation, and destruction as means to achieve security.
He commended the co-chairs of the conference, Saudi Arabia and France, for their roles in garnering international recognition for the State of Palestine and advocating for a two-state solution based on international legitimacy.
The president also recognized the efforts of Egyptian, Qatari, and American mediators and asserted that only the State of Palestine can govern Gaza through a temporary administrative committee linked to the Palestinian government in the West Bank, with Arab and international support.
In a related development, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed the joint statement issued by the presidency of the high-level international conference for the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution, which was held in New York on Monday. The ministry praised the roles of Saudi Arabia and France in mobilizing a broad international consensus on the UN New York Declaration and their determination to further efforts in implementing this declaration at all stages.

The ministry also extended appreciation to the states that adopted the New York Declaration and those that recognized the State of Palestine, urging all countries to promptly sign and adopt the declaration to ensure an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to implement all provisions outlined in the New York Declaration and the joint statement.
