NEW YORK —
Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman will take part in the upcoming United Nations high-level conference on the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution, scheduled for Sept. 22 in New York, either through a live remote connection or a pre-recorded message.

The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted an oral draft resolution presented by the Kingdom approving the Crown Prince’s participation in the event, which Saudi Arabia and France will co-chair on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s high-level week.

The conference will bring together heads of state and government to deliberate on advancing the two-state solution and mobilizing international support.

The initiative reflects broad backing from UN member states and observer delegations, which have endorsed the Saudi-French efforts and reaffirmed their commitment to recognizing a Palestinian state as the sole internationally agreed framework for peace.

Participants also emphasized the need for concrete outcomes, including rejecting annexation and forced displacement, supporting the Palestinian government and UNRWA, and safeguarding political momentum for the peace process.

Saudi Arabia’s leadership role in convening the conference was praised as pivotal in rallying collective action and maintaining diplomatic engagement on the Palestinian cause.

In a related move, the General Assembly approved a resolution granting Palestine the right to deliver its statement via a pre-recorded video during the debate, with 145 votes in favor, 5 against, and 6 abstentions.

The resolution also expressed regret over the United States’ refusal to issue visas for Palestinian representatives and its cancellation of previously issued visas, effectively barring them from attending the meetings in person.
