Messi's bodyguard banned from touchline at Inter Miami games

April 01, 2025

MIAMI — Major League Soccer (MLS) has barred Lionel Messi’s personal bodyguard, Yassine Cheuko, from patrolling the touchline during Inter Miami matches, citing a decision to centralize and manage all matchday security.

Cheuko, a former Navy SEAL, gained viral fame through social media for his intense vigilance during games, where he closely monitored the crowd to prevent pitch invaders from reaching the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Despite his visible presence on the sidelines, MLS has now restricted Cheuko’s access, limiting him to locker rooms and mixed zones only.

“They don't allow me to be on the field anymore,” Cheuko told Spanish media. “I was in Europe for seven years, working for Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and only six people invaded the pitch. I came to the USA and in just 20 months, 16 people have already done so. There's a huge problem here, let me help Messi.” — Agencies
