THE British mission celebrated the occasion of the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, at the British Consulate General, here, on Monday.

The celebration was attended by the British Ambassador Simon Collis, Ambassador Jamal Balkhoyor, director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Makkah Region branch, British Consul General Barrie Peach and several distinguished dignitaries, diplomats, government officials, businessmen and members from the British community in the Kingdom.

Ambassador Collis, in his speech, said: “This year the main topic for all the British Embassies and consulates around the globe is to celebrate under the title (Women in society: honoring the past, forging the future) and this title is in line with the 100th anniversary of granting the right to vote for women in Britain. Of course in Saudi Arabia this is a very important year for Saudi women, increasing her contribution in society under the leadership of King Salman and the Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.”

The ceremony showcased a distinctive example of cultural exchange where Hejazi band danced to the rhythm of Scottish music.

This occasion is considered a very important national celebration for all British citizens and Commonwealth countries around the globe. The Queen celebrates two birthdays each year: her actual birthday on April 21 and her official birthday on (usually) the second Saturday in June.
