Saudi Arabia's MOH hospitals perform over 170,000 surgeries in 1st half of 2023
Saudi Gazette reportRIYADH — The Ministry of Health (MOH) stated that more than 170,000 non-critical surgeries were conducted in various surgical specialties during the first half of 2023.The ministry pointed out that the number of total surgeries that were carried out in its hospitals all around Saudi Arabia's regions reached 177.744. General surgeries topped the list of specialties with 21%, followed by obstetrics and gynecology (13%) and eye surgery (13%). The MOH said the Secondary and Specialized Care Center of its National Health Command Center is cooperating with the health performance program in following up and monitoring the waiting lists of non-critical surgeries, and ensuring service access and scheduling the operations within 36 days. Saudi Gazette reportJEDDAH — The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) said that the number of Saudi employees who obtained the Ajeer permits for seasonal work in Hajj 2023 reached 7,162 men and women.Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, MHRSD noted that the average wage for those with Ajeer permits amounted to about SR5,762.MHRSD confirmed that no cases were detected regarding not being committed with the contract, or delays in the payment of financial dues. Saudi Gazette reportJEDDAH — Customs officers at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a quantity of heroin and opium from a passenger. The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) said the officers found more than 1.3 kilograms of heroin, 41.7 grams of opium hidden in the bowels of the passenger who was coming to Saudi Arabia. After the seizure, the authority confirmed that it has coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) to ensure that they arrest those who were supposed to receive this quantity of narcotics in the Kingdom. The operation was successfully completed with the arrests of two suspects.
