Iranian noise and babble: How will it end?
“Much ado about nothing.” This expression precisely describes the state of the Iranian regime that has been struck with total paralysis since the re-imposition of American economic sanctions. The latest of these is the US slapping sanctions on Iranian oil exports. The poles of power in the Iranian regime of mullahs have been creating a lot of noise and commotion, claiming that their country will export its oil in defiance of US sanctions.President Hassan Rouhani and the mullah regime’s foreign minister Muhammad Javad Zarif had great hopes that the European Union countries would take advantage of their strong relations with the US to get an exemption allowing them to continue dealing with Iran. Nothing of this kind has taken place because Europe cannot violate the American sanctions....

The rights of women in divorce
OkazAs part of the effort of the Ministry of Justice to put an end to secret divorce in which a husband divorces his wife without her knowledge, the ministry has activated an SMS that notifies the wife about the divorce. This is a good step on the part of the ministry, but that opens the door to questions about the method of divorce and the rights of women in the divorce process. Women are not called upon to be involved in divorce procedures and their approval is not required in the same way that it is in the case of marriage. The strange thing is that the relationship between the husband and wife begins with a marriage contract which is an agreement between the two parties but ends with a solo decision on the part of the man. When a woman wants custody of her children or alimony or any...

Israel’s rejection of peaceful overtures
The Israelis today have defied all international organizations and agencies in their drive to erase any Palestinian identity from the land that they have stolen under the guise of protection. But what do they have to worry about? In 2002, the late King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia proposed a peace plan with the Israelis and stated that he would do all within his power to ensure that all other Arab states followed suit. King Abdullah was very clear about his willingness for full peace and normalization of relations with Israel by all 22 Arab states, in return for the full Israeli withdrawal from all occupied lands and the creation of a Palestinian state.King Abdullah’s proposal called for full Israeli withdrawal from all Arab territories occupied since June 1967, in implementation of Security...

Is the UN siding with the Houthis?
OkazWhat if the Yemen national army or the coalition forces supporting the legitimate government in Yemen bombed the podium where Houthi leaders were watching a military show? What if this attack killed many Houthi military leaders? This is similar to the strike by the Houthi militia in the capital city of Sanaa many months ago. What would be the reaction of the international powers who remain silent about the Houthi strike in a military show of the legitimate government in Al-Anad military base?Except for the US State Department’s condemnation of the attack, the international reaction to the incident has amounted to calling for both sides to apply self-control. Calling for self-control is the same as suggesting that a fight is taking place between two equal sides and not between a...

Trump’s promise to build the wall
The construction of a wall on the Mexican-American border and shifting of the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem were among the biggest promises made by US President Donald Trump during his election campaign. Trump stated that he would make Mexico pay for the construction of the wall, the construction of which his opponents and even some loyalists considered to be unnecessary, illogical and immoral.Everybody thought that building the wall was only an electoral promise for winning local support and that it would be one of the promises that would evaporate after the election. However, after his unexpected victory, President Trump continued to talk about the wall, reaffirming that he would make Mexico finance its construction. In a televised speech, the Mexican president announced that he had...

The mass escape during school vacations
Al-MadinahIt is strange to see people leaving the country for a five-day school vacation in a mass escape that is accompanied by joy and happiness. A lot of money is spent on these vacations even though they are only for a few days. One thing that can be said is that a lot of people do not seem to think about the future as much as they do about how to enjoy the moment, regardless of how much money they have to spend. I am sure that people are borrowing money and taking out loans in order to enjoy short vacations. They have joy for a moment and then suffer as they are forced to repay the money they borrowed.People use their credit cards and borrow from relatives and spend thousands and thousands of riyals in a week and after they return, they start crying about how they are unable to pay...

Mixed marriages: Why not?
There is nothing more heartbreaking than a lonely woman denied her right to marriage, love and happiness.I knew Malak in her early twenties. She was such a romantic dreamer, full of passion for learning and work, life and love. She studied biology in the morning, worked for my newspaper in the afternoon, and wrote poetry and short stories in the evening. The combination of intelligence and gorgeousness, enthusiasm and idealism, kindness and generosity gave her instant success and fame.Malak is close to 40, now. She has lost much of her beauty and upbeat as a result of multiple physical and psychological illnesses. When she was younger, slimmer, healthier and happier, many suitors asked for her hand. The first was the love of her life, a handsome Syrian boy. Her father turned them all down,...

SMS divorce
OkazAccording to Okaz sources, when the personal status court sends an SMS to wives in the case of divorce, the actual message does not mention divorce. It merely tells the wife that an official document has been issued in her name with a number and date. It will direct her to the place she needs to visit to receive more information. This reminds me of judges in Egyptian courts who transfer a case to the Grand Mufti of Egypt. This actually means that the decision of the court against the defendant is death.Recently married wives receive a clear SMS with their marriage contract registered with the name and identification number of their husband. The SMS will also provide a link to allow them to evaluate the service. However, a divorce SMS will not include a link to evaluate the service...

The West and the challenges of Orwell’s world!
With the rapid changes taking place in the world today, capitalist democracies face new and unprecedented challenges that require serious legal review that will not only affect the countries concerned but others as well. European governments are demanding that technology companies (all of them American) pay high taxes as a result of their great profits. These companies argue that a basic democratic principle is that there is no taxation without having the right to vote and that as digital companies operating in cyberspace they are not subject to censorship and are not limited by traditional rules, laws and regulations. This debate is new and unprecedented and will establish a model for future judicial decisions, and, therefore, it is being closely monitored by all of those concerned, even...

Saudi Arabia: The Kingdom of Civilizations
The title of this article is not an exaggeration, but irrefutable and undeniable truth. Evidence of this can be found in the exhibition, “Trade Routes in Arabia - Masterpieces of the Monuments of Saudi Arabia through the Ages”, on display in the Louvre in Abu Dhabi. It is one of the most important Saudi international exhibitions reflecting the cultural heritage of the Kingdom and the Arabian Peninsula. The Kingdom is the cradle of ancient human civilizations, although some people intentionally or unintentionally try to market the propaganda that the Arabian Peninsula did not create civilization. We believe that the Arabian Peninsula, which Saudi Arabia occupies most of, is the birthplace of many civilizations that have flourished within its borders. Professor of Archaeology,...
