HEALTH is a hidden kingdom. Health is an invisible luxury; these were sayings of Prophet Dawud (David). How true.

For many of us, the only time we realize how blessed and fortunate we are to be healthy, is when we fall ill. We have lost the active role in the preservation of our own health and we desperately scramble to doctors and resort to pharmaceutical drugs when our health diminishes. We have neglected the use of a simple, preventive remedy that can protect health and has been proven by scientific research and religious traditions to be useful.

A thick, golden, sweet liquid is widely available and affordable, and should be used as a daily regimen. It can be defined as a potion, but for its medicinal and healing, not magical, properties.

Honey has healing powers.

The ancient Greeks believed that consuming honey could make you live longer.

It was mentioned in the Bible (Old Testament) that King Solomon said, “My son, eat thou honey, for it is good.”

In the Holy Qur’an, honey is described as {a drink of varying color in which there is healing for mankind} (Surah 16, verse 69)

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “You have two medicines: honey and the Qur’an”.

Scientists have unraveled the antiseptic and antibacterial properties that honey possesses.

Researchers E. Haffejee and A. Moosa reported in the British Medical Journal a clinical study in which they found that the intake of honey shortens the duration of bacterial diarrhea in young children. Honey can alleviate most digestive disorders, including constipation, gas, and upset stomach.

For a persistent cough and sore throat caused by bacterial infections, honey is the medicine of choice. A study published in the Pediatrics journal stated that natural honey is an effective and soothing treatment for cough and sleeping difficulty in children with upper respiratory tract infections.

“There is no medicine on Earth that is better than honey; it strengthens the body, boosts the immune system, gives energy, and prevents and treats disorders,” said Dr. Nejm Rehan to the Saudi Gazette.

Dr. Rehan holds a Master’s Degree in Islamic studies and PhD in Medicine of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he is certified in blood cupping and herbal therapy. He is the director of an Islamic medical institute in India; treating hundreds of people, with natural herbal remedies; free of any harmful side effects and affordable to the poor and rich.

The health benefits of honey are countless and its method for preparation and use is so simple that it can be followed by everyone. I call that health empowerment!

“Every morning, on an empty stomach and at least half an hour before taking any meal, drink one cup of warm water with two teaspoons of honey dissolved in it. For young children, use only one teaspoon. It can prevent and cure diseases. This honey remedy has been proven to treat stomach and duodenal ulcers, with lasting results,” said Rehan.

“A 19-year-old patient of mine suffered from kidney infection and stones; a painful and serious condition. His family had tried everything: conventional medicine, homeopathy, Ayurvedic medicine, but still no improvement. I prescribed the medicine of the Prophet (peace be upon): honey in a glass of warm water every morning. In 15 days, the kidney stones shrunk in size and shortly after that, they passed naturally,” said Rehan. Drinking this mixture of honey and water treats skin diseases such as acne and eczema. Honey can also be used externally.

Peter Molan, Professor of biochemistry at Waikato University, New Zealand, has been on the forefront of honey research for 20 years. He conducted clinical observations and experimental studies that have shown honey’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. When applied on the skin, it painlessly removes pus, scabs, infestation, and dead tissue from wounds and it stimulates new growth.

Added to your daily mouthwash, honey can protect the health of gums and whiten the teeth.

Although the chemical make-up of honey is mainly sugars: fructose and glucose with low levels of sucrose and maltose, honey is used by Islamic medicine healers to aid in weight loss and control blood sugar levels in diabetic patients.

Honey contains enzymes, amino acids, B vitamins, vitamin C and other antioxidants, and the minerals calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, selenium, chromium, and manganese.

Rehan attests to the use of cinnamon and honey in lowering blood cholesterol and sugar levels, weight loss, and relieving knee joint pain and arthritic stiffness.

“Buy almost any type of honey, as long as it is pure and natural. As a preventive measure, drink honey every morning in a cup of warm water, and you will see for yourself the amazing results. You will notice higher energy levels, improved immunity, clearer skin, healthier hair, and reduced weight if you eat moderately,” added Rehan.

A man just like us but with wisdom imparted to him by God, Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to recommend honey for the treatment of various ailments. Muslim scholar and physician, Jalalu’d Din As-Suyuti, who studied the medicine of the Prophet (peace be upon him) said about honey, “It is the food of foods, the drink of drinks, and the medicine of medicines.”

Honey is indispensible in every home and can be used as a tea sweetener, a spread on toast, syrup over pancakes and breakfast cereal, a healing medicine, and salve for wounds.
