JEDDAH – Indian Consul General Faiz Ahmed Kidwai Wednesday launched a labor guide for Indian workers. The guide titled “Employment in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: A guide for Indian workers” is published by the consulate’s labor section. The 54-page guide contains all the relevant labor-related information that the Indian expatriates need to know from their arrival until their departure from the Kingdom.
“The handbook would serve as a guide not only to workers but to the volunteers and their organizations as well in order to guide Indian workers for claiming their rights under the Kingdom’s labor laws,” Kidwai told a gathering of community volunteers and media representatives at the consulate conference hall. He urged them to disseminate the salient features of the guide among the members of the community.
Consul (Labor) Prabhat K. Jain gave a brief introduction about the guide, saying that a labor handbook was published after a gap of 12 years. “Since our last publication of a guide titled ‘Basic legal information for Indian workers in Saudi Arabia’ on March 31, 2002, there have been several new developments in the Kingdom’s employment market, including new labor law of 2006 and New Delhi’s introduction of new welfare schemes and labor regulations. All these have found a place in the guide,” he said.
