JEDDAH — Nine artists displayed their work at a cultural evening organized here by the Egyptian Consulate on Sunday to mark the third anniversary of the Jan. 25 revolution that ousted longtime ruler Hosni Mubarak.

Dr. Emad Khalil, educational and cultural attaché at the consulate, gave a presentation on Egyptian heritage and spoke about the salient features of the Jan. 25 revolution.

Khalil said the special nature of Egypt’s cultural heritage represents the nation’s unique identity.

Throughout its long history, he said, Egypt has gone through several periods of disarray and decline, known in history as intermediate periods.

"These periods were followed and preceded by several centuries of prosperity and stability. Thus, in all cases, Egypt was able to recover and regain its power and glory," he said.

“What Egypt is going through at present is just another intermediate period, which will soon be over, leading the way toward a new period of splendor and glory," Khalil said.

Khalil’s presentation also discussed activities of the Egyptian Center for Documentation of Cultural & Natural Heritage (CultNat), and its efforts in documenting Jan.  25 revolution, including the production of a documentary about the events that took place between Jan. 25  and Feb. 11, 2011.

Welcoming the guests, Consul General Adel El-Alfy said in the midst of current events back home, it was best to recall the memories of Jan. 25 revolution by hosting a cultural evening with a lecture on heritage and a documentary on the events that took place in the early months of 2011. El-Alfy also honored the artists and handed over certificates of acknowledgement.

Dr. Khalil was elected in 2013 as the first Egyptian president of the International Committee on the Underwater Cultural Heritage (ICUCH).
