RIYADH — The Riyadh Public Transport Authority mourned on Saturday the passing of Mosaed Al-Obaid, who was the 100 millionth passenger to travel on the Riyadh Metro.
The authority offered its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, praying that God Almighty may shower His mercy on him and bestow his family and friends with patience and solace.
Several months ago, Al-Obaid revealed that he frequently used the Riyadh Metro to commute to his workplace and had also trained his children to ride the train while traveling to and fro between their home and universities. He praised the experience of traveling by train, which shortened his travel time and spared him from traffic congestion.
At the time, the authority celebrated the remarkable achievement and presented Al-Obaid with a "Darb" card, which grants him free rides, thanking him for sharing his story and experience of traveling by train.
The Riyadh Metro announced on August 25, 2025 that it welcomed its 100 millionth passenger in less than nine months since the launching of the project in December 2024.
At that time, the number of users of the Blue Line on the Olaya Road axis had reached 46.5 million since its opening, followed by the Red Line on King Abdullah Road with 17 million passengers, and the Orange Line on the Madinah Road axis with 12 million passengers. The number of users of the other three lines reached 24.5 million passengers, with an operating regularity rate exceeding 99.78 percent since the start of operation.
