PARIS — About 92,000 households across France remain without electricity after Storm Goretti swept across the country, disrupting power supplies and electricity production, according to grid operators and local authorities.
Enedis, France’s electricity distribution network operator, said power had been restored to more than three-quarters of the 380,000 homes initially affected by the storm. However, outages are continuing in several northern and northwestern departments, including Manche, Calvados, Seine-Maritime, Eure and Orne, as repair teams continue working to fully restore supplies.
The storm also disrupted electricity generation. Public broadcaster Franceinfo reported that EDF has halted power production at the Flamanville nuclear power plant since Thursday night due to the severe weather conditions.
Storm Goretti brought extremely strong winds, with gusts reaching around 200 kilometers per hour across parts of the country. A peak wind speed of 213 kph was recorded in Gatteville in the Normandy region, underscoring the intensity of the system.
France’s Interior Ministry said six people suffered minor injuries as a result of the storm, while authorities continue to assess damage and monitor weather conditions as restoration efforts progress. — Agencies
