Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — The Heritage Commission announced on Thursday the registration of 8,581 urban heritage assets in the National Urban Heritage Register across Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah regions. By this, the commission has achieved its approved target of registering 50,000 built heritage assets nationwide, one of the goals set out in its plan in the beginning of 2025.

The registration of these sites is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to protect, document, and register urban heritage assets, manage them efficiently, highlight their heritage value, and raise community awareness of their importance, ensuring their sustainability as a cultural legacy for future generations.

The register serves as the official list of heritage sites and buildings recorded in accordance with criteria of national, architectural, or cultural significance under the Law of Antiquities, Museums, and Urban Heritage. The commission relies on geospatial information systems to accurately manage, store, and preserve data related to these sites and buildings, to determine preventive measures and required protection standards to safeguard them for generations to come.

The Heritage Commission called on citizens and interested parties to report urban heritage sites and buildings for registration and protection through the Urban Heritage Service at https://contactcenter.moc.gov.sa/#!/, via the commission’s official account on X, or through its branches across the regions of the Kingdom. It stressed the importance of public awareness and the citizen’s role as a key partner in preserving and developing the nation’s heritage.
