UN welcomes call for southern Yemen dialogue in Riyadh

NEW YORK — The United Nations has welcomed a call by Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad Al-Alimi to hold a Southern Dialogue Conference in Riyadh, a UN spokesperson said.

UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said the organization is closely monitoring recent developments in eastern and southern Yemen and supports resolving differences through inclusive dialogue, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

He said the UN special envoy for Yemen remains in active contact with Yemeni and regional stakeholders, reaffirming the United Nations’ commitment to assisting Yemenis in reaching a comprehensive and sustainable political settlement to end the conflict.
