Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — Education authorities have announced the suspension of in-person classes in Riyadh on Monday.

All schools will shift to remote learning as a precautionary measure due to expected adverse weather conditions, based on reports from the National Center for Meteorology and in the interest of ensuring the safety of students and staff.

According to the official announcement, all public and private schools in Riyadh city and its affiliated governorates — including Al-Majmaah, Al-Ghat, Al-Zulfi, Al-Dawadmi, Al-Quwayiyah, Afif and Shaqra — will conduct classes remotely through the Madrasati platform and other approved educational systems.

The decision applies to all students as well as teaching and administrative staff.

The move comes as the National Center for Meteorology warned of increased chances of rainfall of varying intensity across most regions of the Kingdom until Thursday.

Forecasts indicate the weather system may be accompanied by strong downdraft winds exceeding 60 km/h, hailstorms, high sea waves in coastal areas, and possible flash floods in some locations.

Education departments in several other regions have also announced similar measures, converting in-person learning to remote instruction on Monday.

These include the Eastern Province, Hafar Al-Batin, Qassim, Al-Ahsa, and Al-Baha, all citing student and staff safety as the primary reason for the decision.

Authorities urged students, parents and school staff to follow official weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines issued by relevant agencies, as unstable conditions are expected to persist over the coming days.
