Trilateral Committee meeting in Tehran welcomes steady progress in Saudi-Iranian relations

RIYADH — The third meeting of the Saudi-Chinese-Iranian Trilateral Committee to follow up on the Beijing Agreement welcomed the continuous progress in the entire gamut of Saudi-Iranian bilateral relations. The meeting, held in Tehran, was chaired by Iran’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs Dr. Majid Takht-Ravanchi.

The Saudi delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Walid Al-Kheraiji and the Chinese delegation was headed by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Miao Deyu.

Both the Saudi and Iranian sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the Beijing Agreement in its entirety and their continued efforts to strengthen good neighborly relations between the two countries through adherence to the Charter of the United Nations, the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and international law, including respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, and security of both states.

Saudi Arabia and Iran welcomed the continued positive role of China and the importance of its support and follow-up in implementing the Beijing Agreement. On its part, China affirmed its readiness to continue supporting and encouraging the steps taken by the Kingdom and Iran to develop their relations in various fields.

The three countries welcomed the ongoing progress in Saudi-Iranian relations and the opportunities it provides for direct communication between the two countries at all levels. They noted the great importance of these contacts, meetings, and reciprocal visits between senior officials of the two countries, especially in light of the current tensions and escalation in the region, which threatens its security and the security of the world.

The officials also welcomed the progress witnessed in consular services between the two countries, which enabled more than 85,000 Iranian pilgrims to perform Hajj and more than 210,000 Iranians to perform Umrah with ease and security during 2025.

They also welcomed the progress made in research, educational, media, cultural, and intellectual dialogues between Saudi and Iranian centers and individuals, expressing their satisfaction with the exchange of delegations between the Kingdom and Iran and their participation in each other's events in these fields.

The three countries look forward to expanding cooperation among themselves in various fields, including economic and political ones. They emphasized the importance of dialogue and regional cooperation among the countries of the region to promote security, stability, peace, and economic prosperity.

The three countries called for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, condemning the acts of aggression and violations of the territorial integrity of Iran.

Tehran expressed its appreciation for the clear positions of Saudi Arabia and China regarding this aggression. The three countries reaffirmed their support for a comprehensive political solution in Yemen in accordance with internationally recognized principles under the auspices of the United Nations.

It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia and Iran announced the resumption of diplomatic ties on 10 March 2023, following a deal, called Beijing Agreement, brokered by China.
