RIYADH — The Gulf Cooperation Council on Monday condemned recent media statements by Iranian officials that it said undermine the sovereignty of Bahrain, the UAE’s rights over its three occupied islands, and the ownership of the Al-Durra offshore field shared by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said the remarks contained “falsehoods, baseless claims and unacceptable allegations” that violate principles of non-interference and good-neighborliness.

He said Iran has already breached these principles through actions that infringed upon Qatar’s sovereignty.

Albudaiwi said the comments also contradict the GCC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and expand relations with Iran at all levels.

He stressed that GCC states consistently affirm the importance of adhering to the UN Charter, international law, the principles of good-neighborliness, respect for sovereignty, non-interference and peaceful dispute resolution.

He noted that the GCC has always demonstrated goodwill toward Iran and remains committed to regional stability, as reflected in joint meetings between GCC foreign ministers and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

He also underscored the importance of continued bilateral communication between GCC member states and Iran to safeguard shared interests and regional security.

Albudaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s commitment to peace, coexistence and diplomatic solutions, calling on Iran to stop spreading false claims that undermine trust and hinder engagement at a time when regional states need cooperation to achieve stability, security and prosperity.
