QASSIM — Emir of Qassim Prince Faisal bin Mishaal participated on Monday in a dialogue session titled “The Qassim Region Governorate's Mechanism for Achieving the Objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative,” held as part of the Professional Volunteering Initiative for Their Highnesses and Excellencies.
The session was organized by the National Center for the Development of the Non-Profit Sector, with Deputy emir Prince Fahd bin Saad.
Prince Faisal reviewed the governorate’s efforts to advance environmental and developmental initiatives under the Qassim Green Land program, aligned with the national Saudi Green Initiative.
He highlighted the program’s success in enhancing interagency collaboration, increasing community participation, and setting a new benchmark for cooperation between government entities and the private sector.
“These environmental successes are the result of concerted efforts between government agencies, the private sector, and community members, making Qassim an international model for achieving the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative,” he said. The initiative has so far planted approximately 7.5 million seedlings across parks, roads, gardens, and public spaces.
Prince Faisal noted that the program has gained international recognition after being presented at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York, where it was commended as a model for transforming environmental resources into development opportunities.
Prince Mutaib bin Fahd bin Faisal, Chairman of the Environment Committee, said the initiative has delivered tangible results through expanded vegetation cover and increased use of treated wastewater, laying the foundation for long-term environmental sustainability.
Faisal Al-Fadl, Secretary-General of the Saudi Green Building Forum, described the Qassim Green Land initiative as a local and international success story and a model for government, private-sector institutions, and communities. Salman Al-Suwainee, Director of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Qassim, noted that more than seven million seedlings had been planted to date, praising Prince Faisal’s leadership in enabling broad public participation.
