VIENNA — Saudi Arabia participated in the first meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held in Vienna from November 17 to 21.
Saudi Arabia’s participation, in its capacity as a member of the board for the period of 2025–2027, underscores its active role in advancing peaceful nuclear work. The Kingdom focuses, through its board membership, on promoting peaceful energy use so as to enable developing countries to have access to nuclear technologies, as well as to strengthen international efforts to prevent nuclear weapons proliferation.
The IAEA Board of Governors comprises 35 member states and oversees the implementation of the IAEA’s policies and programs, reviews its budget and operational plans, and approves safety and security standards.
Saudi Arabia is represented on the board by its Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna Dr. Abdullah bin Khaled Toula.
