The agreement — commonly referred to as the “123 Agreement” — will enable collaboration in the field of civil nuclear energy and facilitate the transfer of advanced U.S. technologies to the Kingdom, including nuclear power plants.
According to both governments, work is now underway to finalize the required domestic legal procedures for the signing and entry into force of the agreement.
Administrative arrangements will also be completed to support its implementation, reinforce the two countries’ mutual commitment to non-proliferation and safeguards, and expand long-term cooperation.
The strategic partnership aims to create opportunities for U.S. nuclear energy companies to participate in projects in Saudi Arabia, support high-quality job creation, and attract strategic investment in nuclear energy technologies. It also includes developing joint projects in nuclear energy and its radiological applications.
The Ministry of Energy said the partnership will enable Saudi Arabia to benefit from advanced U.S. nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes, ensuring continued alignment with international standards for safety and non-proliferation.
