Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — The Public Security Directorate has proposed an amendment to the Traffic Law that would allow the import of antique vehicles as well as those vehicles that do not meet import requirements related to age and energy efficiency. The purpose of import is for using these vehicles on public roads with issuance of special license plates.

The amendment stipulates the introduction of a new type of vehicle license plate called "antique vehicle plates" within Article 7 of the Traffic Law. The amendment also includes adding the term " antique vehicle plates" to the vehicle plate fee schedule and adding "antique vehicles" to the vehicle registration and ownership transfer fee schedule, with fees to be determined according to the vehicle category listed in both schedules.

This amendment is expected to support public security and traffic sectors in monitoring these vehicles, as well as to create a safer environment by introducing antique and sports vehicle plates. This also enables regulating the entry and permitting of such vehicles after taking into account the regulations of other countries, and fulfilling the wishes of those who own such antique vehicles.
