JAKARTA — The death toll from a massive landslide in Indonesia’s Central Java province has risen to 11, while 12 others remain missing as search and rescue operations continued on Sunday, officials said.

M. Abdullah, head of the Search and Rescue Office in Cilacap — where the disaster struck — said teams are working around the clock to locate the remaining victims.

“Hopefully, all 12 victims who are still buried can be found,” he told local broadcaster Kompas TV.

Abdullah said rescuers have deployed extensive manpower and equipment to the site, including 21 excavators, 17 compressor support tools, nine search dogs and more than 600 personnel.

On Friday, Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency reported that 20 people were missing and three had been confirmed dead after the landslide hit the village area on Thursday.

Rescue teams are continuing efforts amid difficult terrain and unstable soil conditions. — Agencies
