RIYADH — The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced the extension of the grace period to regularize the status of runaway domestic workers for a period of six months effective from Tuesday, Nov. 11. The ministry confirmed that the procedures of correcting the status shall be implemented through the Musaned platform.
Six months ago, the ministry had announced a six-month grace period for correcting the status of domestic workers, who are reported absent from work (huroob), effective from May 11, 2025. The newly extended grace period will apply only to workers who were reported absent before the date of the new announcement.
The ministry explained that this grace period aims to give domestic workers, who are still staying in the Kingdom after running away from their workplace, as well as their employers a chance to correct legal status through automated procedures on the Musaned platform. New employers can log into the Musaned and complete the procedures automatically, contributing to improving the work environment and safeguarding the rights of both domestic workers and their employers.
The ministry said that this initiative comes within the framework of its ongoing efforts to develop the domestic worker sector in the Kingdom, and is in line with the initiative to improve contractual relationships and its efforts to regulate the labor market.
The initiative allows domestic workers who have previously been reported absent or whose residency permits have expired and who are still in the Kingdom illegally to regularize their status by transferring their services to other employers after completing the necessary procedures.
It is noteworthy that Musaned is the official platform of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development for household services and home employment program.
