Riyadh — Saudi weightlifter Aqeel Al Jassim earned the Kingdom’s first medal at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games, securing silver on the second day of the weightlifting competitions held at Riyadh City Boulevard.
Al Jassim claimed second place in the 60 kg category, lifting 124 kg in the snatch competition. Indonesia’s representative took gold with a lift of 129 kg, while the Turkish competitor won bronze after lifting 119 kg.
In the women’s events, Saudi weightlifters Ghada Al-Tassan and Yasmine Al-Mahfouz wrapped up their participation.
Al-Tassan placed seventh in the 48 kg category, lifting 52 kg in the snatch portion and 62 kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 117 kg.
Al-Mahfouz ranked sixth in the 53 kg category, lifting 59 kg in the snatch and 71 kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 130 kg.
The Saudi team’s campaign continues tomorrow with Siraj Al-Sulayem competing in the 65 kg event, Fatima Al-Khawahir in the 58 kg category, and Ali Al-Hiwar in the 71 kg division.
