SEOUL — A Chinese fishing vessel capsized off the southwestern coast of South Korea’s Gageo Island on Sunday, leaving three crew members missing and two others in cardiac arrest, South Korean Coast Guard officials said.

The 98-ton boat went down in international waters about 80 kilometers (49.7 miles) from Gageo Island at around 6:50 a.m. local time (2150GMT Saturday), according to Yonhap News.

Of the 11 crew members on board, six were initially rescued by a nearby Chinese ship.

The South Korean Coast Guard later retrieved two more individuals who were found drifting in the water; both were in cardiac arrest and were rushed to a hospital.

Search operations are underway for the three missing fishermen, with South Korean and Chinese authorities coordinating efforts. — Agencies
